Manchester United open for Bailly, Telles offers

Eric Bailly and Alex Telles are both set to return to Manchester United from their loans at Olympique Marseille and Sevilla, respectively, at the end of the season, but the 20-time English champions have no intention of keeping either of them in their ranks for 2023/24, and according to Fabrizio Romano, they re open to offers for the services of the two defenders.

Both players have been deemed surplus to requirements from the start since Erik ten Hag took over as United boss, with Rafael Varane and Tyrell Malacia arriving last summer to cover the voids in the squad left by their departures, and with Varane expectedly establishing himself as an indispensable member of the back four and Malacia as a rather able backup option for Luke Shaw on the left flank, the situation for 29-y…

Mariga move stalled by FA approval decision

(GSM) McDonald Mariga s move to the Premier League is awaiting approval from the Football Association, according to Serie A side Parma.

The Kenyan midfielder, who is a target of Manchester City, has been prevented from completing the deal due to work permit issues.

Parma s general manager Pietro Leonardi told the Italian media on Monday: We hope that this case will be resolved.

We should have some update from England briefly.

Mariga joined Parma on a permanent basis in the summer of 2008, after initially moving on loan from Helsingborgs, and the 20-year-old has made nine league appearances for the club this season.

He is under contract with the Serie A outfit until June 2012.

Schweinsteiger brushes aside captaincy pressure

Bastian Schweinsteiger downplayed the significance of his ascension to the role of Germany captain, ahead of his first appearance since their World Cup win.

The Bayern Munich midfielder played all 120 minutes in the Germans 1-0 extra-time victory over Argentina in Rio de Janeiro in July, helping Joachim Low s men to a fourth world title.

Schweinsteiger has not appeared for his country since, with Germany playing four European Championship qualifiers and two friendlies to round out their successful 2014 but the Bayern stalwart was sidelined by a left knee problem.

Predecessor Philipp Lahm retired following the World Cup win.

Preparing to wear the armband as Germany s full-time captain for the first time, Schweinsteiger said he did not feel any extra pressu…

Courtois rejects talk of Madrid switch

Thibaut Courtois has rejected suggestions he could quit Chelsea in favour of a move to Atletico or Real Madrid, insisting he is happy at Stamford Bridge.

The Belgium international impressed during three seasons on loan in LaLiga with Atleti earlier in his career – winning the league title, Copa del Rey and Europa League.

He returned to Chelsea in 2014 and quickly established himself as first-choice goalkeeper, ousting long-term number one Petr Cech in the process.

Courtois is widely regarded as one of the best young goalkeepers in world football and has been linked with both Madrid clubs, but he says his immediate future remains in the Premier League.

I m happy at Chelsea, he said in an interview with The Partidazo COPE. There is no reason not to be ha…

Market: Over 1.5 goals

Odds: 4/11 @

Looking to sign off their September international fixtures with a flurry on foreign soil, England will make the trip out to Poland on Wednesday night.

Starting with the hosts, while Poland might have really failed to find any kind of form on their summer adventure, the Eagles have managed to bounce back over the past week. Collecting just a single point at the European Championship run, a run highlighted by a shock 2-1 defeat at the hands of Slovakia, new boss Paulo Sousa has seen his side land back-to-back qualifying romps since opening September. Building off of their 4-1 win against Albania earlier in the month as they hit San Marino for seven over the weekend, the one-time Leicester manager has seen his squad gain a reput…

Ledley hopeful of new deal amid Cardiff speculation

Celtic midfielder Joe Ledley wants to discuss a new contract with the Scottish champions despite links of a return to Cardiff City.

The 26-year-old joined Neil Lennon s side in 2010 after previously representing the newly promoted Premier League side.

Reports have suggested the Welshman could be set to return in a £3million deal.

But he moved to quell the speculation and expects to enter talks over a new deal at Celtic Park.

We still haven t officially spoken to the club at the moment, he said.

My agent has been away and the club has been pretty busy as well with sorting out new players.

Hopefully I will be next and sort something out. In the next couple of weeks, if we could sort something out, it would be brilliant.

On the alleged Cardiff tr…

Lucas ruled out for ´a few months´

Liverpool have been dealt a blow with the news Lucas Leiva is set to be out for a few months with a knee ligament injury.

The Brazil international lasted just 20 minutes as a second-half substitute in Liverpool s 2-2 draw with Aston Villa at Anfield on Saturday.

Lucas described hearing a click in his knee and reportedly left Anfield on crutches.

In a press conference at Melwood on Thursday, Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers said: First of all, personally, I am disappointed for Lucas because he s been very, very important for our squad this season.

It was something that was innocuous really and has put him out for a few months.

Hopefully he ll get back sooner rather than later. He d been in good form this season and had worked his way back into the Brazil sq…
